Rick Usrey Rick is a third generation driller. Both his grandfathers drilled wells. Rick grew up helping his father, Doyle, drill irrigation, and domestic water wells with a cable-tool rig in Portales, NM. In 1983, Rick purchased the business from his dad. Over the next several years, he drilled many wells in and around Roosevelt County. Rick graduated from Adams State College in 1991 with a degree in geology.
In addition to drilling, he taught high school science for 3 years and worked for the state of New Mexico for 4 years, his last 2 years as the Water Resource Specialist in Ruidoso responsible for regulating municipal water systems in Lincoln and Otero counties. Rick couldn't get drilling out of his blood, so he left the state job to re-enter the drilling business in 2004.
Kevin Usrey Kevin started drilling in 1997 in Portales. In 2000 he worked for Layne Western in Colorado where he learned to drill with an air rotary rig. When his parents moved back to New Mexico, Kevin resumed drilling in Portales. He and his father started talking about drilling in Ruidoso, so Kevin moved there and they bought their first air rotary rig (CP-670) for drilling solid formations. Kevin usually does most of the pump installations and repair work.
Dixie Usrey Of course, Dixie is the glue holding this operation together. Dixie comes from a hard-working ranching and farming family (Gilman) in Roosevelt county. Dixie graduated from ENMU with a degree in home economics. In addition to being a mother, she taught school in each of the areas where she and Rick have lived. Her most recent teaching position was in Tularosa, but she resigned to work full time with Rick and Kevin.
Dixie is the one to call for information. She can help you with scheduling and pricing. Also, she will gladly assist you in completing the state required permit application for drilling a water well.
